Take stock of all the reasons why you’re amazing.

Does any of this sound familiar?

I feel lost. Ungrounded. Without traction. I lack confidence or a sense of self. I need my first job. Need a new job. I’m in the wrong job. I’m under-employed. Wrongly deployed. I’m bored. I feel like a fraud.

I have forgotten who I am. I don’t feel like me. Something needs to change.

Believe me when I tell you I totally understand. It’s hard enough being human at the best of times, and this moment in history is definitely making things worse. But take some comfort in the fact that you are not alone. These feelings, particularly around the idea of Imposter Syndrome, are actually SO common. And because we’re all going through our own struggles, it’s crucial that we work together to find solutions that make us feel better - about ourselves and the world around us. Solutions that make us feel optimistic. That give us defined and achievable goals towards which we can apply ourselves. Solutions like this one:

Do a skills audit.

At its core, a skills audit is intended to make you feel good about yourself. It’s a list of all the incredible skills you have that make you…well, you.

The most impactful part of a skills audit, however, is not so much what’s on your list, but how it gets interpreted and absorbed. With careful consideration and an eye to the bigger picture, you’ll be surprised by how the things you already know how to do can be used to help you do the things you think you can’t. It’s all a question of perspective, and being able to see the transferability of your skills is a skill in and of itself. It’s about getting out of your own way, and reintroducing yourself to all the things you have to offer. Or maybe it’s about seeing those things authentically for the very first time. Either way, once you learn how to get on board with yourself, you’ll be able to apply the same skills to all the other aspects of your life. And then you’ll go from stuck to unstoppable.

And who doesn’t need a little of that?

Sessions

This isn’t therapy. And I’m not a career coach. A skills audit is more about cleaning away clutter so you can see yourself more clearly before you consider doing other personal or professional development work. I’ll use the very skills you have identified to challenge your negative self-assumptions and that insidious Imposter Syndrome, in order to help you take out some of the garbage you’ve been telling yourself, and get you ready to move ahead. With that done, you’ll start to feel better, start to see a way forward, and get on with the business of being the real you.

Individual

Follow-up sessions are useful when more time is required to further investigate things like skill patterns and self-limiting beliefs.

Small Groups

Small group skills audits provide opportunities for collaboration and support from a variety of viewpoints.
